Robert Thomas v. Henry Pile. Petition for Freedom

 

To the honorable The Judges of the General Court The Petition of Robert Thomas humbly sheweth That he is held in slavery by The Reverend Henry Pile of Charles County, and he is advised that he is entitled to be free being descended from a free white woman whose name was Elizabeth Thomas, in the female line. He therefore prays your Honours the premisses considered, to discharge him from the Custody of the said Henry Pile, if he should prove his descent as aforesaid, & that summons may issue for the said Henry Pile to answer this petition & he will pray & so forth.
