The United States of America to the Marshal of the District of Columbia Greeting

You are hereby commanded to Summon Stephen Cooke if he shall be found in the County of Washington in your said District that (all excuses and delays set aside) he be and appear before the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia to be held in and for the county aforesaid at the City of Washington on the for first Monday of June next to answer to the petition of Negro Lucy and her children John, Julia, Eliza, Emily and Jane for their freedom, which they have this day exhibited in the said court against him the said Cooke

Hereof fail not at your peril and have you then and there this writ

Witness the Honble Wm Cranch Esq Chief Judge of the said court this 13th day of April 1809. Issued this 25th day of April 1809:
