Margaret Tyler v. Robert Duvall. Petition for Freedom
To the Hon. the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for Washington County.
The petition of Margaret Tyler a free woman of colour of said City and District respectfully represents that she is claimed as the slave by Wm Duvall of said City and District surviving executor of John Smith deceased late of said City and District and is apprehensive that she may be removed beyond the limmits[?] of said District and the jurisdiction of your Hon. court. She would pray that the said Wm. Duvall may be summoned to answer this petition and that your petitioner may have her right of freedom decided by the judgement of your Hon. court and such other and further releif as her case may require.
