To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District Court of Columbia for the County of Washington.
The Petition of negro Milly humbly sheweth that your Petitioner is entitled to her freedom & is unjustly held in bondage by a certain Basil Warring of Washington, who claims & holds your Petitioner as a Slave.
Wherefore she prays the United States writ of subpoena to the said Basil Warring the Defendant directed, commanding him to appear & answer hereunto, that your Petitioner may be discharged according to law.
