To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia in the County of Washington.
The petition of Nace Humphreys by Dolly Humphreys his next friend respectfully sheweth, That said Nace Humphreys is entitled to his freedom, but is held in slavery as a slave for life by John Boswell. Your petitioner therefore prays, that he may be released from slavery, and that a supa. may issue to said John Boswell commanding him &c[?] in the usual form. and your petitioner will ever pray &c.
