The Petition of Negro Arnold humble to The Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington
humbly Sheweth
That your Petitioner is a free man & is unjustly held in bondage as a slave by a certain George N. Thomas of Washington County aforesaid from which said bondage your Petitioner prays to be released & that his case may be proceeded with according to Law, & that your Honors will grant him the United States writ of Subpoena to the said Thomas directed to appear & recognize according to Law & all such other & further relief in the premisses as to your Honors may seem just. &c &c
