David v. James Hutchison. Petition for Freedom
To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington.
The Petition of Negro David humbly sheweth that your Petitioner is entitled to his freedom & is unlawfully held in bondage and claimed as a slave by a certain James Hutchison. Wherefore he prays your Honors that the United States writ of subpoena may be issued, commanding the said Defendant Hutchison to appear and answer hereunto, & that your Petitioner may be discharged &ca according to law.
