The Petition of Nace Humphreys humbly sheweth that he is entitled to his freedom & is unjustly held in bondage by a certain John B Lambert who claims your Petitioner as a slave.
Wherefore your Petitioner prays subpoena to said Defendant directed that he may appear & answer hereto & that your Petitioner may be discharged according to law.
