To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for Washington County.
The Petition of Wood Humphreys humbly sheweth that he is entitled to his freedom & is unjustly held in bondage by a certain William Berry who claims your Petitioner as a slave. Wherefore he prays the United States writ of sbpa to the said Defendant directed that he may be compelled to appear & answer hereunto, & that your Petitioner may be discharged according to law.
