To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington. The Petition of negro Sally (an infant by William her father & next friend) humbly sheweth that your Petitioner is entitled to her freedom & is unjustly held in bondage by a certain Henry W Ball who holds & claims your Petitioner as a slave.
Wherefor your Petitioner prays that a subpona may be issued directed to the said Henry Ball that he may appear & answer unto the premisses, & your said claim to freedom & be allowed all such other & futher relief in the premisses as may be agreeable to law & may seem right to your Honors.—
