Mary Butler v. Adam Craig. Petition of Tracy Butler et al.
To the Honourable the General Court of the State of Maryland.
The humble Petition of Tracy Butler sheweth that your Petitioner is descended from a free white woman and is entitled to her Liberty; That Henry Bradford of Prince George County holds your Petitioner in slavery and will not suffer her to go free. Your Petitioner therefor prays the honourable Court to take her Case into Consideration and grant her such Relief as to your Honours shall seem meet and that the said Henry Bradford may be summoned to be and appear before your honourable Court to answer the above Complaint. Your petitioner also prays that Subpoenas may issue for the following witnesses returnable next Court to wit, William McPherson of Charles County William Bowling, Thomas Bowling, Benjamin Jameston and Jane Proctor and Elizabeth Poesy all of Charles County, and your Petitioner as in Duty bound will pray & so forth.
