Petition for freedom in the General Court

The deposition of Mrs. Sarah Boarman of Charles county aged forty or thereabouts, deposeth & sayeth that she knows the parties in the above suit. That she knew Betty commonly called Betty Mingo that she has heard her say her Mother was a White Woman & a Welch Woman. This deponant says she knows Judy the mother & Sophia the Grand Mother of the petitioner & that she has known them for thirty years. This deponant further sayeth that she lived with Mrs Elizabeth Pile the mother of the defendant about fifteen years & that she asked her if Betty Mingo's Mother was a white woman & that she answered the family of the Mingos says so. This deponant further saith that the Petitioner & his descendants has always been reputed slaves & held as such

Charles County Sct: August 16th 1793. Then the within Deposition was taken & sworn to before the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid within presence of the Petitioner & Defendant
