Mary Campbell v. Asa Anderson. Petition for Freedom

 

To the Honorable Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia sitting at Alexandria.

Your Petitioner Mary Campbell respectfully shews that she was the Slave of one Henderson Magruder at the time of his death, and that the said Henderson by his last will and testament duly executed and since proved and recorded in       County in the State of Maryland emancipate your Petitioner

That your Petitioner after the death of the said Henderson was seized as a slave by one Asa Anderson who claimed your Petitioner as a Slave the property of his wife and has since held and now holds her as such

Your Petitioner therefore prays to be allowed to sue in forma pauperis for the recovery of her freedom and that counsel may be assigned to her to state & report her case
