Jacob v. Stephen Cooke. Bond

 

Know all Men by these presents that we Stephen Cooke and       are held & firmly bound unto         of the Court of Hustings for the Town of Alexandria in the full & Just sum of four hundred dollars for the use of the commonwealth to the payment whereof will & truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our and each of our heirs, executors & administrators jointly & severally firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals & dated this 8th day of August 1800.

Whereas the Court of Hustings for the Town of Alexandria did at their April term last       grant leave to negro Jacob to institute a suit in forma pauperis against the above bound Stephen Cooke for his freedom, and did order and direct that the said negro Jacob should remain in the custody of the Town Sergeant, untill the said Stephen Cooke should give security in the sum of four hundred dollars to have him forthcoming at the trial of this cause, Now the condition of the above obligation is such, that if the above bound Stephen Cooke shall have the said negro Jacob forthcoming to answer the Judgement of the Court in the said suit, then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force.
