Charles v. Henry Nicholson. Affidavit of James Campbell
Personally appeared before me a Justice of Peace for said County. James Campbell who made Oath that Negro Charles now in Jail as Henry Nicholsons property was brought in Jail by a son of Col Lyles or some other person as the property of Col Lyles. That he was sold out of Jail to a man from Carolina, and carried away. some time after Charles came back again, and was a second time committed as a runaway, remained in Jail according to Law, and was hired out for his Fees, the Master came for him, and sold him to Henry Nicholson.
