To the Honble. The Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington

The petition of Ann Gordon by R. R. Crawford, the attorney of the said Ann Gordon respectfully represents, that the said Ann Gordon is claimed and illegally held in slavery, as the slave of Milly Richards, William H. Richards, Berton Richards, Nancy Richards, Jane Osborn, Margaret Harrison and Mildred Harrison devisees & legatees of William Richards Senior, deceased, late of Fairfax County in the State of Virginia. And your petitioner further represents that of right and of law, she is well and justly entitled to her freedom. Wherefore the petitioner aforesaid humbly prays your Honors, that the said Milly Richards, William H. Richards, Berton Richards, Nancy Richards, Jane Osborn, Margaret Harrison and Mildred Harrison he duly summoned into Court & the cause being duly heard, that her right to freedom, may be fully decreed & your petitioner will ever pray.
