Harriet Humphreys by Matilda Butler her next friend files this her petition & respectfully represents unto your Honors that one Robert W Hunter now holds & unjustly detains your petitioner in bondage as a slave and your petitioner further represents to your Honors that she is in fact & [illegible] a free negro woman & entittled to her uncontroled[?] freedom and she prays your Honors to grant her the usual subpoena commanding the said Robert W Hunter to be & appear before your Honors & answer &c & hear & determine her case according to law.
