To the Honorable, the Judges of the of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington

The Petition of Primos Garner a colored man humbly sheweth unto your Honors that he is entitled to his freedom, and is unjustly detained and held in bondage by one William Mills of the District of Columbia, who claims your Petitioner as his slave Whereupon your Petitioner prays your Honors to grant a subpoena to be directed to the said William Mills and such other relief in the premises as may be according to law and your Petitioner will as is duty bound ever pray &c
