The petition of William Kennedy sometimes called William Condy represents that he is held in slavery by a certain I Purnell Pendleton of the State of Virginia, whereas he avers he is entitled to his freedom under the laws in force in the District of Columbia &c Wherefore he prays that process of subpoena may issue to said I. Purnell Pendleton commanding &c. & such other & further relief in the premises as may seem just & proper
