To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington
The Petition of Sarah Gibson otherwise called Sarah a coloured woman in behalf of herself and her infant child Lucy humbly complaining sheweth unto your Honors that your Petitioner and her said infant child are entitled to their freedom and are unjustly held in bondage by James C. Hall, James Laurie and his wife Elizabeth B. Laurie who claim your Petitioner and her said infant child as their slaves Wherefore your Petitioner prays your Honors to grant a subpoena to the said James C. Hall, James Laurie and his wife Elizabeth B Laurie and such relief in the premises as may be according to law
