To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the United States for the District of Columbia

Your Petitioner Travers Dixon respectfully represents to your Honors that he is entitled to his freedom, and that he is illegally and unjustifiably held in bondage By William Herbert Esq. the administrator of his former master George F. Thornton deceased. Wherefore he prays your Honors to enquire into his case, and by Judicial interposition to extend to him that relief to which he is properly entitled. and your Petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray &c
