Daniel Jones v. James R. Bosley. Petition for Freedom

 

To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington

The Petition of Daniel Jones a black man humbly sets forth to your honors that he is justly and lawfully entitled to his freedom, but that nevertheless he is held in slavery by one James R Bosley who [illegible] as to claim title to him as a slave. Wherefore your Petitioner prays your Honors to grant him the United Writ of Subpoena to be directed to the said James R. Bosley that he may be and appear before your honorable court and answer hereto, and that your petitioner may be discharged from slavery, and obtain such relief in the premises as to your Honors may seem right, and as in duty bound he will ever pray &c
