To the Honorable the Judges of The Circuit Court of The District of Columbia for the County of Washington
The Petition of Sarah Davis Humbly sheweth
That Your Petitioner is detained in Slavery by a certain James Clark Lee who resides within the Jurisdiction of this Court. That your Petitioner is advised that she is entitled to her freedom having been born of Parents entitled to the Same right; she therefore Prays your Honors that process may issue so that she the said Sarah may maintain her pretensions. And also Prays that she may be permitted to assertain her claim
