Margaret Joes v. Fellow Hewes. Petition for Freedom
To the Honorable the Judges of the circuit court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington. The Humble petition of Margaret Joes and her three children, Augusta, Clement and Aria Anna sheweth that your petitioners are detained in slavery by Fellow Hewes, and as they were born free they pray that process may be awarded to compell the appearance of the said Fellow Hewes to answer their complaint.
