To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court for the District of Columbia in the County of Washington.
The petition of James Humphreys by Dolly Humphreys his next friend, respectfully shewth, That said James Humphreys is entitled to his freedom, but is held in slavery as a slave for life by Henry Roberts. Your petitioner therefore prays that he may be released from the bondage of said Henry Roberts, and that subpa. may issue to said Henry Roberts commanding him &c in the usual form. And your petitioner will ever pray &c
