Samuel v. James Green. Affidavit of John W. Beedle

John W Beedle personally appeared before me Jacob Hoffman a Justice of the Peace for said County, and made Oath, that Samuel a Black Man, who he understands is about to bring Suit for his freedom, he hired from Edward Burrage, in the month of June or July in the year Eighteen hundred and seventeen sixteen. that the said Samuel Continued with him untill about eight days before Christmas, when the said Edward Burrage took him away from this Deponant, stating he must return him to his Master in Maryland he Otherwise might Obtain his freedom, that he understood from the said Edwd. Burrage that he had removed to this place. some time, early in the year, in which he hired Sam from him, that he brought Samuel from Maryland he further states that a few days after Damage took him to Maryland he returned, and he believes he hired him for a short time.
