Ex parte Anthony. Writ of Habeas Corpus

The United States of America To the Marshall of the District of Columbia Greeting: You are hereby commanded that you have the body of Negro Anthony detained in your prison under your Custody as it is said by whatsoever name he is called in the same together with the day and cause of taking and detaining the said Negro Anthony, before the Honorable the Judges of the United States Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Alexandria at the Court House of the said County immediately to do submit to and receive what our said Judges shall then and there consider of him in this behalf and have then there this writ. Witness the Hon. William Cranch, Chief Judge of ours aid Court this 30th day of April 1806.

In Obedeance to the within Writ, I have the Body of the within named Negro Antony, before the Honbl. the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Alexandria. And Do Certify that said Negro Antony was commited on the 19th day of April 1806 By Warrant under the hand of Abram Faw Esqr. which warrant is in these words to wit. Alexandria County Sct. You are hereby required to receive into your Jail and Custody Negro Anthony who was brought before me by Joseph Simpson as a Runaway, said to be a slave, the property of Mr. Richard West of Prince George's County Maryland. And him safely keep until he be thence discharged according to Law. Given under my hand this 19th day of April 1806. A. Faw. Capt. James Cambell Jailer. And that the said Negro Anthony was Commited for no other Cause.
