James v. James Campbell. Complaint

 

County of Alexandria towit:

James (a negro man) complains of James Campbell in custody &c. for that the said defendant on the       day of Sept. in the year 1807 with force & arms towit with swords, staves and knives, assaulted the said plaintiff in the county aforesaid, and beat wounded & ill treated him, so that his life was greatly dispaired of, and imprisoned the said plff. there, and kept him detained there in prison for a long time to wit for the space of       months. and did other wrongs to the said plaintiff against the peace and government of the United States and to the damages of the sd. plff one hundred & fifty dollars. and therefore he brings suit &c
