Fanny Smith v. Joseph Thornton. Affidavit of Catharine Watson

Personally appeared before me one of the Justices of Peace for said County Catharine Watson who made Oath According to Law. That About Nine years Ago, Joseph Fenwick came to the Town of Alexandria with his Family (as this deponant understood) from the State of Kentucky, and that he brought with him a Black Girl Called Fanny Smith, he remained but a Short time in Town, he then sold this Black Girl to Mr. Joseph Thornton and removed Away to New York, as this this deponant believes and understood
