The United States of America to Stephen Cooke late of the County of Washington Greeting

Whereas it hath been represented to us in our Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington on the part and behalf of negro Lucy and her children, John, Julia, Eliza, Emily and Jane Complainants or Petitioners against Stephen Cooke defendant, that for certain good Causes[?] and reasons[?] by the said Complainants or petitioners at large set forth in their Complaint or Petition in writing this day exhibited in the said Court against the said Defendant, they prayed that the United States Writ of Injunction might issue against the said Stephen Cooke, his agents or attornies, commanding enjoining and prohibiting them & each of them from taking conveying away & removing out of the District of Columbia the said Negro Lucy or any of her said children, until &C.

We do therefore hereby strictly command, enjoin and prohibit you the said Stephen Cooke; (and your agents and attornies and each of them) from taking, conveying away & removing out of the District of Columbia the said Negro Lucy or any of her said children untill further order of this court be known in the premises

Witness the Honable Wm Cranch Esquire Chief Judge of the said court the 13th day of April 1809.
