To the Honorable The Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for Washington County.
James Williams of the District & County aforesaid represents that he is held in slavery by Peter Havener of said District & County, and that he, the said Williams, is entitled to his freedom & humbly prays your Honors to inquire into & do, or cause justice to be done in the premises;
And your petitioner will ever pray &c.
