Peter Morris v. Jonathan Davis & James Kincaid. Affidavit of George G. Minor

On the 18th May 1816 before the subscriber an assistant Judge of the Circuit Court of The District of Columbia appears George G. Minor & under oath in due term of law that one E. Hale came to Queens Tavern on Saturday last stating if that he came from New York & had bought this Negro Morris whom he brought with him to Queens on his way to Washington in New Jersey for $400. That the boy did not know of the purchase but thought he was hired, and that he (Hale) wished him still to remain in ignorance of the sale.
