To the Honble the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington.
The Petition of Nace Humphreys junr: humbly sheweth that your Petitioner is entitled to his freedom & is unjustly held in bondage by a certain William Berry, who claims your Petitioner as a slave for life. Wherefore he prays your Honors that sbpa may issue, to the said William Berry directed, commanding him to appear & answer hereunto, that your Petitioner may be discharged according to law.
