The United States of America to the Marshal of the District of Columbia Greeting

You are hereby commanded to summon Daniel Moxley, Elizabeth Crow, Edward Edelin, and Harriet Beans if they shall be found in the County of Washington in your said District, that all excuses and delays set aside they be and appear before the Circuit Court here immediately to answer the petition of Negro Charles and Nan his wife, & Eliza, Juda & Stephen her children for their freedom; which said petition was this day filed in the said Court against the said defendants. Hereof fail not at your peril, and have here this wit writ. Witness the Honorable, William Cranch Esq. Chief Judge of the said Court.
