To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington

The Petition of Nancy Jones a coloured woman humbly complaining sheweth unto your Honors that your Petitioner is entitled to her freedom and is unjustly held in bondage by Alexander Hunter marshal of the District of Columbia aforesaid who claims and holds your Petitioner as a slave

Wherefore your Petitioner prays your Honors to grant a subpoena to the said Alexander Hunter directed and such relief in the premises as may be according to law
