To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington

The Petition of Negro Willis otherwise called Willis Johnston humbly sheweth unto your Honors that his is entitled to his freedom and is unjustly held in slavery and bondage by James Laurie and James C Hall who claim your Petitioner as a slave Wherefore your Petitioner prays your Honors to grant subpoenas to the said James Laurie and James C Hall directed and such relief in the premises as may be according to law
