Letha Duckett v. John McCutchen & John H.G. McCutchen. Petition for Freedom

 

To the Hon. the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington.

The Petition of Letha Duckett, for herself, and of Mary Duckett, Thomas Duckett, Barbara Duckett, Julia Duckett and Lewis Duckett, infants by the said Letha, their mother and next friend, respectfully sets forth that they are unlawfully held in bondage by one John McCutchen, and one John H. G. McCutchen, and they pray to be that the facts may be inquired into, and they be released from servitude. And they pray such security against intolerance or a forcible abuction, prior to a trial of their claim to freedom as may consist with equity, and the just rights of your petitioners.
