District of Columbia, to wit:

The United States of America,

To the Marshal of the District of Columbia--Greeting:

We command you that you take summon Gerard T. Greenfield late of Washington County, if he shall be found within the County of Washington in your said District, and safely keep, so that you he have bod be and appear before the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia, to be held for the County aforesaid, at the City of Washington, on the fourth Monday of November next, to answer unto the Petition of Ann Bell and her children Daniel and David filed in the said Court agt him for their freedoms.

Hereof fail not, at your peril, and have you then and there this writ:

Witness Wm Cranch Esquire, Chief Judge of our said Court, at the City of Washington, the 13th day of July Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred and 37.

Issued the 31st 19th day of July 1837.
