To the Hon the Judges of the Circuit Court of the United States for the District of Columbia & County of Washington
The Petition of Robert Henley respectfully sheweth that your petitioner is held in bondage & claimed by Samuel Miller of said county as a slave, although your petitioner is justly entitled to his freedom. Your petitioner therefore prays that your Honors will take his case into consideration & that a subpoena may issue commanding the said Samuel Miller to appear &c &c & that such further and other process & relief as to your Honors may deem meet & his case requires, may be granted to your petitioner & he as in duty bound will ever pray &c
